Up and coming Calgary-based artist Audder recently released her debut EP “Violet Tape” on September 21, 2020. Inspired by cycles of heartbreak, shame, and existential crisis she’d been avoiding over the last seven years.
I always thought distancing myself from the problem could solve the problem. I knew that I was actually just hyper-focusing on the problem instead and wearing myself out. Violet Tape felt like telling myself, “Hey, I’m gonna address that I have issues, or else I won’t move on.” By the time I wrote it out, I had realized I already healed from many of those patterns.”
The three-track project, produced by Sean Thompson, was engineered by Ivo Santos and Ronnie Ronyo. The soundscape is influenced by “the nostalgia of listening to Motown soul and R&B; Garage rock like The Black Keys; and acoustic cuts of alternative songs. It is meant to feel like being in the fuzzy, sad atmosphere of your memories.”
