Oliver Throne is a poet, hip hop artist, and songwriter influenced by musicians such as J. Cole, Tyler the Creator, and Noname.Growing up in Calgary, AB, he was introduced to hip hop and R&B by his older brother and sister’s playlists which included the likes of Lauryn Hill, 2Pac, Wu-Tang Clan, and more.
In college, as he shifted towards a poetic hip hop style, he chose the name Oliver Throne being inspired by artist names like Frank Ocean and Lupe Fiasco. Though originally beginning art in the poetry scene, to him “the art is not just a form, it's a lifestyle, a way which I interpret reality and its mysteries.
Last year, Throne released his project "THRE3" on September 14, and finished off the year with the stand-alone single "A Taxed Freestyle" on November 20.
In 2018, Ollie won the seventh volume of 10 at 10 Calgary's Rec the Mic, earning him a slot at their well known showcase. After his experience, he produced his own showcase called "Ollie and Friends" which ran for three volumes.
